Changing Lives Through Guidance, Treatment, and Education

Since 1987, the Allen Temple Baptist Church AIDS Ministry has responded to the needs of people living with or impacted by HIV/AIDS by creating programs which provide:

  • Prevention awareness education.
  • Prayer and spiritual guidance.
  • Medical treatment and life-saving HIV/AIDS anti-retroviral medication.
  • Living and social services.
We focus on overall solutions to:
  • Reduce the trend of higher infection rates amongst African Americans and Sub Saharan Africans.
  • Increase awareness and combat HIV/AIDS stigmatism.
  • Sustain the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Expand the reach of our services through leadership development opportunities which encourage other churches to create HIV/AIDS ministries.
Our programs address the specific needs of East Oakland, California and Zimbabwe, Africa communities and the Ministry is committed to expanding our impact locally, and in Africa. We need your help.

God has made us what we are, and in union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Our Oakland Program

In Oakland, the pandemic continues to greatly impact the lives of African Americans and other people of color at disproportionate rates; especially among individuals 20-49 years of age, ages 50 and older and African American women. African Americans in Alameda County account for approximately half of all diagnosed cases†. We serve East Oakland and surrounding communities by focusing on:
  • Offering spiritual support and ministering to individuals living with and/or impacted by the disease.
  • Providing case management services.
  • Sponsoring testing, prevention and awareness events specifically targeted to youth and young adults.

Our Sub Saharan Africa Programs

Sub Saharan Africa has been significantly affected by HIV/AIDS, accounting for 67% of all people living with the disease and for 72% of AIDS deaths in 2007.* Approximately 22 million people live with HIV/AIDS in Sub Saharan Africa. We serve Sub Saharan Zimbabwe communities by focusing on:
  • Offering spiritual support and ministering to individuals living with and/or impacted by the disease.
  • Administering life-saving anti-retroviral medication and medical treatment to children and adults.
  • Giving living and financial support to orphaned children impacted by the disease.
