ATBC styrofoam free 2013 Flash1 opt1

Effective June 1, 2013, Allen Temple Baptist Church will be a Styrofoam free campus. We are aware of the dangers associated with Polystyrene products and have made a conscious decision to protect the health of our members and customers as much as possible by adopting this policy. Polystyrene, a product made from suspected carcinogens and neurotoxins, Styrene and Benzene, is used to make inexpensive drinking cups, food containers, and utensils. This product is hazardous to both our health and to the environment.

Scientific tests have shown when hot foods or liquids come into contact with Styrofoam, the Styrofoam starts to breakdown and cause toxins to be absorbed into the bloodstream and tissues. Styrofoam is not biodegradable so it can take 500 years to decompose. For the safety of our members and our environment, Styrofoam plates, Styrofoam cups, Styrofoam bowls, and Styrofoam carry-out cases are not permitted to be brought onto the ATBC campus.

Join us as we envision a new thing in creating a world where we do not utilize products which are harmful to our health or environment!
